When you don't know where you're going...any road will do.
If I came to you and said “let’s go on a vacation” your first response would probably be “where are we going?” What if my response was “I don’t have a clue”? You might think I was crazy. Why would you ever consider going on a vacation without knowing the destination? A
vacation is too important to be left to chance. It’s time off of work, which is very precious -- and it needs to be planned to make the most of every second. Yet many of us travel through our lives without a clear destination in mind. We don’t know who we are or where we’re going because we don’t face our true feelings. We’re too busy trying to feel the way we believe other people think we should feel. We’re too consumed with pleasing others to take stock of what our real feelings are.
Traveling without a map, down any road, is fine if your only plan is to meander through life without any direction, thinking you have all the time in the world to reach your true destination, wherever it may be. But when you stop and consider that this is your life – not a dress rehearsal for your life, but the real thing – maybe traveling without a map isn’t such a great idea. Every day, every hour, every second that passes is time that you will never, ever get back.
Don’t wait beside the road of life, with your thumb out, trying to hitch a ride with someone else, using their map as your guide. You need your own map to begin your journey down your road to emotional freedom. You need the triple A’s to get you started – Awareness, Acknowledgement, and Acceptance.
The important thing to remember is that you’re entitled to your feelings – they’re not right or wrong – they just are. So don’t let your feelings cause you guilt. Being your authentic self is your right. You owe it to yourself to express who you are, truthfully – so chart your course without being limited by fear.
IT IS ALL IN YOUR HEAD!
