The Unholy Trio
This post first appeared in It's All In Your Head on September 16, 2013
As with any good book, I flipped to the last chapter and began reading. The subject was fear, and the "Unholy Trio" comprises indecision, doubt and fear. The book is "Think & Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill, which is one of the best motivational books I've ever read.
The Unholy Trio is alive and active in most of us. Indecision is the first inkling you have that you
might not achieve your goal. Once indecision has made its presence known, doubt begins nagging at you. Why on earth did you think you were smart enough, motivated enough, or just plain good enough to reach your goal? Indecision and doubt are double-teaming your brain, and soon fear seeps in. Not only did you have trouble deciding and then doubt your decision was right for you...now you're filled with fear of what might happen.
Only you can blast the Unholy Trio out of your brain, and it's not that difficult to do. Indecision, doubt and fear are all in your head. If there is one thing you still have complete control over, it's what's going on in your mind. Think about it. If you're not the one controlling your thoughts, who is? If you can identify who really controls your thoughts, feel free to contact me. I'll work with them, straighten them out, and you'll get better. Sound silly? Of course. Look in the mirror and you will see the problem...it's you. The good thing is...you are the only person you can control.
Indecision, doubt and fear are dangerous because they are so slow to percolate in your brain...so slow that you may not realize they have taken residence until they are in full bloom. Don't panic. There is something you can do to neutralize these intruders.
* Dismiss the IF. "IF I had more money..." "IF my family understood me..." "IF I could only catch a break..."
* The only IF you should entertain is "IF I knew what was stopping me, I would address it". You can figure this IF out by looking inside your heart and being brutally honest about what you find.
* Only after you honestly face what is stopping you, are you in a position to take action to move forward toward achieving your goal.
If you have overcome a challenge that was holding you back from what you really wanted, I'd love to hear from you.
