Dark Hallways of the mind can be very scary places.
Dusty halls and dark corridors are not the places we normally like to visit. Yet how many of us spend time roaming through the dusty halls and dark corridors of memory? We go back to visit places we've been and
people we've known...some good but more often than not, we visit the places and people we would rather forget. And all too often, we relive, in vivid detail, the events that caused us embarrassment or pain.
I recently found myself in the dusty halls and dark corridors of my own mind reliving an event that caused me a good deal of pain. My mind took me there, and I went willingly, not as a hostage who was forced. Memory after painful memory swept over me. I re-experienced each moment until I finally wondered why I was there.
Then it hit me, and it seemed so simple. I was there to rewrite this particular memory, making it a benign event that would no longer trouble me. I closed my eyes and replayed the memory, but this time I carefully edited the parts that were painful making a new memory for myself.
You are the author, producer and director of your life. If there are painful memories that knock on the door of consciousness, you have the power to change them. Rewrite the pain into something easier to handle. You'll be glad you did.
