Don't you hate it when your life is humming along quite nicely and...suddenly...BAM!...everything goes off track.  That's what happened to me a few weeks ago.  Life was good, then...not so much.

My husband began having episodes of slurred speech.  The third time it happened, we called 911.  A CT scan showed it wasn't a stroke...what a relief.  But he had a subdural hematoma...doctor-speak for a brain bleed.  He fell and hit his head on the ice about 8 weeks before, and that was likely the cause.  Luckily, the blood was old, so the bleeding had stopped.

After surgery to drain the blood, his surgeon said he expects 100% recovery, and so do we.  We are indeed fortunate that the surgery was successful and my husband is home. 

The moral of this story is...if you fall and hit your head, do not hesitate to go the emergency room for a checkup.  My husband had no headaches and the only symptom, slurred speech, didn't occur until 8 weeks after the fall.  He was lucky.  But that's not always the case.
