$1,000,000 Motivation

If you knew you would get $1,000,000 by changing, would you do it?
A student asked me how to change her thoughts. "Oh that's easy" I said.  "Just picture a bright red stop sign in front of you, say the word 'STOP', and insert a new thought."
Change is easy.  We like to think it's hard, but it's not.  The most difficult thing is committing to change...that's where the problem lies. For a guaranteed $1,000,000 most of us would probably be willing to give it a shot.  But where do you find someone to give you that kind of guarantee?
You must find your own $1,000,000 motivation to change.  When the change is worth it to you, then you will find it's not that difficult.  Until then, keep searching.

Mean Spirited

It seems to me that the world is drenched in meanspiritedness.  Compassion and compromise have been tossed aside to be replaced by divisiveness and self-rightousness.  Perhaps all this negativity is seeping into every crack and crevice...into the very air we breathe.  I love the following words of Fred Rogers.  I think he got it right.

"At the center of the Universe is a loving heart that continues to beat and that wants the best for every person.  Anything that we can do to foster the intellect and spirit and emotional growth of our fellow human beings, that is our job."
~~Fred Rogers (aka Mr. Rogers)

No Regrets

Eat the damn chocolate cake. Get your hair wet. Love someone. Dance in those muddy puddles. Tell someone off. Draw with crayons like  you're still 6 years old then give it to someone who is very important to you. Take a nap. Go on vacation. Do a cartwheel. Make your own recipe. Dance like no one sees you. Paint each nail a different color. Take a bubble bath. Laugh at a corny joke. Get on that table and dance. Pick strawberries. Take a job. Plant a garden. Make an ugly shirt and wear it all day. Learn a new language. Write a song. Date someone you usually wouldn't go for. Make a scrapbook. Go on a picnic. Relax in the sun. Make your own home video. Kiss the un-kissed. Hug the un-hugged.
Love the unloved and live your life to the fullest so at the end of the day you'll have no regrets, no sorrows, no disappointments.
I could not find an author to this quote...just know that it is not mine.  But I believe the words and hope that each of you will follow one or more of the suggestions.

This Is Your Life

Life isn't about finding yourself.  Life is about creating yourself.

~~George Bernard Shaw

Two funerals in one week is too many for me.  The latest was our neighbor...48 years old.  Her wish was to live long enough to see her son graduate from high school.  But the cancer took its toll on her body, and she just didn't have enough left to fight any longer.

It's good to be reminded of how precious life is.  Don't squander a single's a gift you will never get back.  Give love to everyone you meet, including yourself.  Don't take anyone for granted because you never know when they will be plucked from your life.  And above all, enjoy who you are, where you are and what you are doing.

This is not a dress rehearsal.  This is your life.

Roses are red...

Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength,

while loving someone deeply gives you courage.

~~Lao Tzu

St. Valentine is associated with love. He's the patron saint of engaged couples and happy marriages.  But did you know he is also the patron saint of beekeepers, travelers and people with epilepsy, the plague and fainting spells?  He clearly has wide-ranging duties.

Happy Valentine's Day.

Take A Breath. Take A Chance.

You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great!

~~Zig Zigler

Have you ever been in a meeting when someone asked for suggestions about how to accomplish some goal?  And have you ever had a suggestion but were hesitant to speak up because others might think it was ridiculous?  And has the person sitting next to you offered their suggestion, which was exactly the same as your suggestion?  Who seemed ridiculous then?

If you never speak up, if you never take a chance, if you never will never go anywhere.  Take a breath and take a chance.  You'll be stronger for it.

Good Bye Mrs. P

She opened her arms and welcomed us all as her family.

A dear friend of our family passed away...the funeral was Saturday.  It was not a surprise to anyone because Mrs. P (as we affectionately called her) had battled cancer for many years.  Still, when death actually claims a loved one, I don't know that we are ever prepared for the sadness or the sense of loss.

Mrs. P was a kind woman.  In all the years I knew her, I never heard her say a negative thing to or about anyone.  Even when the cancer was destroying her body and she was so frail, she never complained.  If you asked how she was, she always said she was fine.  During the service when the priest asked us to pray for her speedy entry into Heaven, I smiled to myself because I just know she was already up there watching over us. She always tried to do the right thing and succeeded more than anyone I've ever known.  She opened her arms and welcomed us all as her family, and we all loved her.

So goodbye Mrs. P.  We remember you with love and joy and count ourselves lucky because you touched our lives.  You will be missed.

The Best Things In Life...

It's always something!

~~Roseanne Roseannadanna

My car is at the dealership for repairs. If it's the alternator, we're talking $800, so hopefully it's only the battery. But I need a car for work so whatever the cost, I'll hand over my charge card.
I have a dental appointment this week that I expect will cost about $300. Yikes!  And dog licenses are due at the end of February...the price has gone up to $50 each.  Before I can get them, the dogs need to go to the vet for booster shots.  I won't even speculate how much that will be.
The snow is piled so high outside, I don't know where we will put the 3" to 5" that is coming tonight and tomorrow...not to mention the snow that is sure to blanket the area over the rest of February and March. And don't get me started on the cabin fever that's setting in courtesy of the polar vortex that keeps visiting Michigan.
If you're feeling like life has punched you in the gut, remember that you can do something to feel better.  Focus on what's going right in your life.  Did you sleep in a bed last night?  You're lucky.  When you wanted breakfast was there food in the pantry?  Thank goodness.  Did you open you closet and have a choice of what to wear?  You are truly blessed.  And don't forget the people who make you smile and love you no matter what.
Handle the unpleasant things with grace and be thankful for all the blessings you have.
